The Hon. E. Lynise Bryant is a judge for the 36th District Court of Michigan. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jennifer Granholm on October 30, 2007, filling a vacancy created by the passing of the Hon. Jeanette O’Banner-Owens.
Prior to her appointment, Bryant was a Hearing Officer for the City of Detroit Department of Administrative Hearings, a position to which she was named in 2007. Before that, she spent time as a partner at Bryant-Weekes, Holmes & Associates (2005 to 2007).
Bryant earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Eastern Michigan University. She then completed a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School.
After graduating from law school, Bryant began her legal career as a staff attorney for Northeast Ohio Legal Services, Pittsburgh Legal Services, and Wayne County Neighborhood Legal Services. Then, in 1994, she became a labor and employment attorney for the City of Detroit Law Department. She served in that capacity until 2002, at which time she joined the City of Detroit Police Department as its Director of Personnel.
Her memberships have included the Wolverine Bar Association, the Association of Black Judges of Michigan, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She has also been involved with the Detroit Civil Service Commission and the Emmanuel Community Services Board of Directors.
Bryant was a resident of Detroit, Michigan, at the time of her appointment.
