The Hon. Frederick G. Rockwell, III (Ret.) was a judge for the 12th Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia. He joined the Circuit Court bench in 2002. Rockwell retired on January 1, 2022.
The 12th Judicial Circuit includes Chesterfield County and the City of Colonial Heights.
While on the Circuit Court bench, he spent seventeen years presiding over the Adult Treatment Court (2005 to 2022). Rockwell began his judicial career as a judge for the Chesterfield Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court in the 12th Judicial District in 1994. Before that, he was an assistant commonwealth’s attorney in Chesterfield County and a juvenile probation officer in Hanover County.
In addition to his civilian legal career, Rockwell served as a Major in the United States Army Reserves and a Captain in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps at Fort Wainwright in Alaska. He also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Richmond School of Law.
Rockwell earned a bachelor’s degree from Randolph-Macon College. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Richmond School of Law in 1979.
