Hon. Frederick L. Borchard (Ret.) was a judge for the Tenth Circuit Court of Michigan in Saginaw County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Engler in November 1998. Borchard retired on January 1, 2017.
During his judicial tenure, he was appointed Chief Judge of the Tenth Circuit Court by the Michigan Supreme Court in December 2012.
Prior to his appointment, Borchard was a senior partner at Smith, Bovill, Fisher, Myer, Borchard, P.C. Before joining the firm, he had worked as an assistant prosecutor with the Saginaw County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, beginning there after graduating from law school.
He received an A.A. from Delta College (1967) and a B.S. from Alma College (1969). Borchard went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Detroit, Mercy School of Law in 1972.
He served as a delegate to the American Bar Association Judicial Division National Conference of State Trial Judges and was a past president of the Michigan Judges Association.
His younger brother, the Hon. James T. Borchard, is a judge for the Tenth Circuit Court, and his father, the Hon. Fred J. Borchard, was a judge in Saginaw County for fifty-five years.
