Hon. Fredric J. Ammerman is a judge for the Clearfield County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was appointed to the bench in 1994. Ammerman was subsequently elected to the seat in 1996 and was retained in 2006 and 2016.
During his judicial tenure, Ammerman served as the president judge in Clearfield County and was the administrative judge of Region Unit II, which includes Blair, Clearfield, Centre, Clinton, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata, and Perry Counties. In addition, he was instrumental in initiating several programs within the court system, including the Community Service Program, the Teen Court, the Victim/Witness Program, and the Clearfield County Drug Task Force. He also established a branch of the Domestic Relations Office in DuBois and revamped the Collections Department.
Ammerman received a B.A. from Juniata College in 1979. He went on to complete a J.D. at Pennsylvania State University School of Law in 1982.
After graduating from law school, he opened his own private solo practice, where he remained until his appointment to the bench (1982 to 1994). In addition to holding this position, Ammerman worked as a part-time assistant district attorney with the Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office for two years beginning in 1984 and later became its District Attorney in 1988. He remained in that capacity while continuing to work in private practice (1988 to 1994).
His memberships included the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges. Ammerman was also co-founder of the Clearfield to Grampian Rail Trail and the Clearfield Skate Park and was a member of the Clearfield County Rails to Trails Association (former vice president and president) and the Clearfield YMCA (Board of Directors). He was also active with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Ammerman was a volunteer coach for the Clearfield Soccer Association and vice president of the Clearfield Soccer Booster Club.
His father, the late Dave Ammerman, was a Clearfield attorney. Ammerman himself is a native of Curwensville. He and his wife have two daughters.
He is registered as a Democrat.
