The Hon. Gary H. Lee is a judge for the North Dakota North Central Judicial District. Lee was elected to the Northwest Judicial District in 2004, transferring to the North Central Judicial District when it was created on January 1, 2014.
The North Central Judicial District includes Burke County, Mountrail County, and Ward County.
Over the course of his judicial career, Lee has held assignments as the Presiding District Judge of the North Central Judicial District. He has presided over more than 150 jury trials, and he has served as a surrogate judge for the North Dakota Supreme Court in more than 30 cases.
Lee earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota. He then completed a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Lee began his legal career as an assistant attorney general for the North Dakota Office of the Attorney General. He served in that capacity until 1982, at which time he entered into private practice in Minot.
His memberships have included the North Dakota Supreme Court Administrative Council as well as the North Dakota Supreme Court Committee on Jury Standards.
Born and raised in Minot, North Dakota, Lee and his wife, Margaret, have one son.
