Hon. Geoffrey W. Tenney is a judge for the 10th Judicial District Court of Minnesota in Wright County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Tim Pawlenty on December 31, 2008.
The 10th Judicial District includes Anoka, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Pine, Sherburne, Washington, and Wright Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Tenney worked for ten years as a sole practitioner in his own private practice in Buffalo (1998 to 2008) and also served as a prosecutor for the City of Buffalo (2005 to 2008) and a part-time assistant public defender for the 10th Judicial District (1999 to 2004).
Before opening his law firm, he spent two years as a tribal prosecutor for the Spirit Lake Tribe in Fort Totten, North Dakota, and an interim tribal prosecutor for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in Fort Yates, North Dakota.
He received a B.A. from St. John’s University in 1993. Tenney went on to complete a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1996.
After graduating from law school, he began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Thomas G. McCarthy with the 1st Judicial District Court (1996).
His memberships have included the Minnesota State Bar Association and the 18th District Bar Association (past president).
Tenney has served as a volunteer firefighter for the Buffalo Fire Department and was also involved with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Buffalo’s National Night Out, the Wright County Community Health Foundation, the Buffalo Days Parade, and Wright County Parenting Through Divorce classes.
He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At the time of his appointment, he resided in Buffalo.
