Hon. Glenn H. Derryberry (Ret.) was a judge for the Allen County Court of Common Pleas (Probate and Juvenile Division) in Ohio. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Ted Strickland in 2007. Derryberry retired on January 31, 2021.
Prior to his appointment, he was chief magistrate of the Juvenile Court in Allen County, a position he had held since 1989.
Derryberry received a bachelor’s degree in social studies education from Bowling Green State University in 1973. He went on to complete a J.D. at Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law in 1977.
After graduating from law school, Derryberry began his legal career as a private practice attorney, a position he maintained until becoming a Juvenile Court magistrate. As such he handled criminal and family law matters.
During that same time, Derryberry worked as an assistant attorney general with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office (1982 to 1983), an assistant city prosecutor for the City of Lima (1982 to 1984), and a public defender in Auglaize County (1981 to 1982).
His memberships have included the Allen County Bar Association (past president), the Ohio State Bar Association (District 16 Representative to the Council of Delegates), the American Bar Association, the Ohio Judicial Conference, the Ohio Association of Probate Judges, the Ohio Association of Juvenile Judges, and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.
Derryberry also sat on the Allen County Bar Association’s Executive Committee, Grievance Committee, Juvenile Court Committee, and Continuing Legal Education Committee (co-chair) as well as the Ohio State Bar Association’s Family Law Committee, Juvenile Justice Committee, and Family Law Committee (chair).
His civic involvement included the Lima Noon Optimist Club, the Optimist International (lifetime member), the Shawnee United Methodist Church Administrative Board (chair), and the West Ohio Annual Conference (Lay Delegate).
After retiring from the bench, Derryberry hoped to spend more time with his children in Florida and Boston.
He was registered as a Democrat.
