The Hon. Gregory E. Jackson(Ret.) is a senior associate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Jackson was appointed to the bench by former President George W. Bush in 2005. He assumed senior status in 2017.
Prior to his appointment, Jackson was general counsel to the District of Columbia Department of Corrections, a position to which he was named in 1999. Before that, he spent time as an assistant United States attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia (1986 to 1999). During his tenure there, he helped establish the Conditions of Release Enforcement Program, a mechanism for the enforcement of pretrial conditions of release, such as curfews and stay-away orders.
Jackson earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and urban planning from Rutgers University in 1973. He spent the next few years as assistant to the New Brunswick Provost and Student Complaints Officer before completing a J.D. at Rutgers Law School in 1978.
After graduating from law school, Jackson began his legal career as an attorney in the Honor Law Graduate Program for the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He served in that capacity until 1986.
He is a recipient of the Public Service Award from the District of Columbia Department of Corrections (2003).
Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Jackson attended the District of Columbia Public Schools and the Sidwell Friends School.
