Biography

The Hon. Irma R. Kaufman (Ret.) was a judge for the Plumas County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Pete Wilson in 1998. He retired from the bench in 2018 and the Hon. Douglas M. Prouty filled his vacancy.


Kaufman received his B.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1969. He went on to earn his J.D. from California Western School of Law in 1972.


Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, Kaufman had served as a Plumas County public defender for ten years.


His memberships included serving on the California Judicial Council and he was also the past-president of the California Judges Association.


In his retirement, Kaufman hoped to serve as a visiting judge as needed and was also looking forward to traveling with his wife Maddie.
