The Hon. J. Arthur Melvin, III is a judge for the Waukesha County Circuit Court of Wisconsin. He was elected to the bench in 2020.
Prior to his election, Melvin was a judge advocate for the Wisconsin Army National Guard, holding assignments with the 505th Trial Defense Team. He was also deployed to Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq. Before that, he spent time as a staff attorney for the Wisconsin Labor and Industry Review Commission as well as the Wisconsin Department of Administration’s Division of Gaming.
Melvin earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1997. He then completed a J.D. at Marquette University Law School in 1999.
After graduating from law school, Melvin began his legal career as an associate at Baxter & O’Meara. Later, he became staff counsel to QBE America General Causality.
Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Melvin was raised in Sparta, Wisconsin, and Brodhead, Wisconsin. His father served in the United States Army.
