The Hon. James F. Hartmann (Ret.) served as a judge for the 19th Judicial District Court of Colorado. Hartmann was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Owens on March 1, 2003. He retired in 2022.
The 19th Judicial District encompasses Weld County.
Hartmann earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1986. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Idaho College of Law in 1989.
After graduating from law school, Hartmann began his legal career as a deputy district attorney for the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. He served in that capacity until his appointment to the bench, rising through the ranks to become its chief deputy district attorney in 2000.
Raised in Windsor, Colorado, Hartmann attended Windsor High School.
