The Hon. Jason Poydras is a judge for the King County Superior Court in Washington. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Jay Inslee on July 8, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Susan Craighead.
Poydras began his judicial career as a judge for the King County District Court, a position to which he was named in 2017. During this time, he sat as the Presiding Judge for the South Division. Before that, he served as a hearing examiner (2008 to 2012) and an administrative law judge (2012 to 2017) for the Washington State Office of Administrative Hearings.
Poydras earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana. He then completed a J.D. at Seattle University School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Poydras began his legal career as a Rule 9 Intern with the Associated Counsel for the Accused in Seattle. He then joined the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where he served as a deputy prosecuting attorney.
His memberships have included the Seattle Human Rights Commission and the Advisory Board of the Judicial Institute. He also sat on the Judicial Evaluation Committee of the Loren Miller Bar Association.
Poydras was born and raised in South Central, Los Angeles.
