The Hon. Jeanmarie Carroll is an associate justice of the Quincy District Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Deval Patrick on September 5, 2014, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Beverly Cannone to the Massachusetts Superior Court.
Carroll earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and Spanish from the College of the Holy Cross in 1984. She then completed a J.D. at Northeastern University School of Law in 1988.
After graduating from law school, Carroll joined the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office. She started as an assistant district attorney, rising through the ranks to become Deputy Chief (1990 to 1997) and Chief (1997 to 2000) of the Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Unit.
Carroll was subsequently named Second Assistant District Attorney in 2000. She worked in that capacity until 2009, at which time she was appointed First Assistant District Attorney for the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office. Carroll holds the distinction of winning the first and only conviction at trial in Massachusetts for a murder case in which the body was never found.
Her memberships have included the Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Norfolk Bar Association. She sat on the Supreme Judicial Court’s Bishop-Fuller Committee and the Open Court Advisory Board. Carroll has also been actively involved as a member of the Board of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Children’s Alliance and the Children’s Advocacy Center of Norfolk County.
She was named Prosecutor of the Year by the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association (2002) and Lawyer of the Year by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (2002).
Carroll was born in Syosset, New York. She was a resident of Jamaica Plain at the time of her appointment.
