Hon. Jeffrey M. Johnson is a judge for the 3rd Judicial District Court of Minnesota in Rice County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mark Dayton on March 23, 2018, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Thomas M. Neuville (Ret.).
The 3rd Judicial District includes Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, and Winona Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Johnson was the chief public defender with the Office of the Public Defender for the 3rd Judicial District. During his tenure there, he also served as an interim managing attorney and an assistant public defender.
Over the course of his legal career, he was president of Jeffrey M. Johnson, P.A. and a partner at Schurhammer & Johnson, P.A.
Johnson received a B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College. He went on to complete a J.D. at William Mitchell College of Law.
He served as a member of the steering committees for the Steele-Waseca and Olmsted County treatment courts and on the advisory boards for Rice County Community Corrections and Dual Recovery.
