Hon. Jeffrey M. Liptrot is a judge for the Scituate Probate Court in Providence County, Rhode Island. He was appointed to the bench in 2017.
In addition to sitting on the probate court, Liptrot is a partner in the Providence office of Lewis Brisbois. He is a member of the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Practice. As such, Liptrot has represented self-insured employers and insurers before the Rhode Island Workers’ Compensation Court and has also appeared before the Rhode Island Supreme Court.
His legal career also includes practicing at Morrison Mahoney LLP (1994 to 2015) and Gallagher & Gallagher (1990 to 1994).
Liptrot received a B.A. in history and English from Rutgers University in 1987. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce School of Law in 1990.
He was admitted to practice in Rhode Island (1990), the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit (1991), and the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island (1991).
Liptrot has held memberships with the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Defense Counsel of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Workers’ Compensation Bench/Bar Committee, the Defense Research Institute, and the Rhode Island Probate Judges Association.
He is a frequent presenter on Workers’ Compensation and Employment Law matters for bar associations, private corporations, and national education companies. Liptrot was also a contributing author for the legal treatise, “A Practical Guide to Workers’ Compensation in Rhode Island.”
