Hon. John C. Threet is a judge for the 4th Judicial Circuit Court of Arkansas. He was elected to the bench in 2014.
The 4th Judicial Circuit includes Madison and Washington Counties.
Prior to his election, Threet was the Prosecuting Attorney for the 4th Judicial Circuit, a position in which he was elected in 2006. He became a deputy prosecutor there in 1993 and a chief deputy prosecutor in 1998. Before that, Threet worked as a deputy public defender in the Washington County Public Defender’s Office (1990 to 1993).
He also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law and was an instructor at the National Advocacy Center.
He received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Ouachita Baptist University in 1987. Threet went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1990.
He is a past president of the Washington County Bar Association and a board member and president of the Arkansas Association of Prosecuting Attorneys.
Threet was appointed to the Arkansas Coroner Advisory Task Force and the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Criminal Jury Instructions.
He is credited with serving as one of the founders of the Washington/Madison County Drug Court and was a member of the advisory board of the Children’s Safety Center and a board member of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Northwest Arkansas. Threet was also involved with the Fayetteville Rotary Club (past president) and the Arts Center of the Ozarks (board member).
He and his wife, Joan, have two children. Threet has served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
