Hon. John E. Scipione (Ret.) was a judge for the 18th Judicial District Court of Colorado. He joined the bench on September 29, 2018. Scipione resigned on January 20, 2023.
The 18th Judicial District includes Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties.
Prior to his elevation to the District Court, he presided as a judge for the Arapahoe County Court (2017 to 2018) and a magistrate for the 18th Judicial District in Arapahoe County (2012 to 2017), during which time he handled a county and district court docket.
Before joining the bench, he spent eighteen years in private practice (1994 to 2012), including as a managing partner at Taussig, Scipione & Taussig, P.C., where he handled plaintiff’s personal injury, insurance bad faith, employment litigation, and federal criminal defense. Scipione also tried 100 criminal and civil cases to verdict, and his other areas of practice included family law, dependency and neglect, criminal defense, commercial litigation, medical negligence, catastrophic injury and wrongful death, products liability, and employment and Title IV matters.
Scipione received a B.A. in political science and government from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1990. He went on to complete a J.D. at Colorado Law in 1994.
Scipione attended Chaminade High School.
