The Hon. John W. Grinsteiner (Ret.) served as a judge for the North Dakota South Central Judicial District. Grinsteiner was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jack Dalrymple on August 18, 2015. He retired on August 20, 2021, and became the State Judicial Outreach Liaison for the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute.
The South Central Judicial District includes Burleigh County, Emmons County, Grant County, McLean County, Mercer County, Morton County, Oliver County, Sioux County, and Sheridan County.
Grinsteiner earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of North Dakota in 1994. He then completed a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1998.
After graduating from law school, Grinsteiner entered into private practice, opening the Grinsteiner Law Offices in Bismarck. He worked in that capacity until 2003, at which time he became a judicial referee for the South Central Judicial District.
His memberships have included the North Dakota Association of Drug Court Professionals.
Grinsteiner was born in Bismarck, North Dakota.
