The Hon. Jon W. Welborn is a judge for the 22B Judicial District Court of North Carolina. He was elected to the bench in 2022.
The 22B Judicial District includes Davidson and Davie County.
Prior to his election, Welborn operated his own private practice, the Welborn Law Firm, since 2014. His practice focused on criminal defense and family law matters. Before establishing his firm in Mocksville, he was a partner at Gottholm, Welborn & Benton (2011 to 2013) and The Law Offices of Benton & Welborn, PLLC (2006 to 2011) and a sole practitioner at The Law Office of Jon W. Welborn, PLLC (2005 to 2006).
He received a B.S. in political science and criminal justice from Appalachian State University in 2002. Welborn then completed a J.D. at Appalachian School of Law in 2005. While a law student, he completed an internship with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office.
He served as a board member of the Farmington Community Center, Family Promise of Davie County, and the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford. Welborn was also on the Executive Board of the Davie County Republican Party (chairman) and a member of the Statesville #27 Masonic Lodge (master mason) and the Davie County Chamber of Commerce.
In addition, he served as a volunteer fireman and medical responder for the Buck Shoals Volunteer Fire Department.
In 2015, Welborn received the AVVO Client Choice Award and the Client Satisfaction Award from the American Institute of DUI/DWI Attorneys. He was also named a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers Organization in 2015.
Welborn attended East Wilkes High School. His late father, Perry Welborn, was an independent insurance agent and his mother, Pat, is a retired special education teacher. Welborn and his wife, Amber, a nursing educator at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, have two daughters. The family attends Hillsdale-Methodist Church in Advance. When not presiding over legal matters, Welborn enjoys hunting, fishing, and collecting firearms.
He is registered as a Republican.
