The Hon. Joseph H. Niemeyer (Ret.) served as a judge for the Hancock County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. Niemeyer initially joined the bench in 1991. He retired on December 31, 2016.
Over the course of his judicial career, Niemeyer was instrumental in the creation of the Hancock County Drug Court.
Niemeyer earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Xavier University in 1971. He then completed a J.D. at Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law in 1975.
After graduating from law school, Niemeyer began his legal career as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office. He served in that capacity until 1985, at which time he became the Prosecuting Attorney for Hancock County. Niemeyer supplemented his service to Hancock County with work as a partner at Fry, Niemeyer & Kissh (1985 to 1990).
His memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Hancock County Bar Association, the American Judges Association, the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association, and the American Judicature Society.
