The Hon. Julie R. Culver is a judge for the Monterey County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Robert O'Farrell (Ret.).
She is a registered Republican.
Judge Culver received her B.S. from Santa Clara University. She went on to earn her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law.
She began her legal career as a deputy district attorney for the Monterey County District Attorney's Office in 1985.
Then, after fourteen years with the D.A.'s office, Culver entered into private practice. She became a sole practitioner in her own private practice in 1999 and would remain there until 2006. At that time Culver then became general counsel for Shop.com, a position she would hold until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2010.
During her tenure on the bench, Judge Culver has served as the Assistant Presiding Judge of the Court. She has also presided over civil and criminal assignments.
Judge Culver was appointed by the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court to serve as a member of the Criminal Law Advisory Committee. Her other judicial committees have included serving as chair of the Monterey County Court Technology Committee and chair of the committee tasked with updating the Monterey County local court rules.
She also served as a Carmel City planning commissioner.
