The Hon. Keta J. Barnes (Ret.) is a former judge for the Rutherford County General Sessions Court in Tennessee. She joined the bench in 2006. Barnes retired in 2014.
A municipal judge for the Smyrna Municipal Court, Barnes also sat by designation as a judge on the General Sessions Court in Rutherford County. She joined the bench after working as a private practice attorney in Nashville since 2002.
Barnes received a bachelor’s degree in English from Mercer University. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2002.
Following her retirement, Barnes worked for one year as an assistant attorney general with the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office (2014 to 2015) before becoming an attorney for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in 2015.
