Hon. Kim S. Shropshire is a judge for the 6th Judicial District Court of Colorado. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Jared Polis in 2022, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. William Herringer (Ret.).
The 6th Judicial District includes Archuleta, La Plata, and San Juan Counties.
Prior to her appointment, Shropshire was a staff attorney for Colorado Legal Services and a Guardian ad Litem through the Mountain Ute CFR Court, having served in these capacities since 2006. During that time, she handled civil issues related to poverty, including family law, housing, and public benefits such as Medicaid, Social Security, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. Her family law practice included cases involving domestic violence, as well as the protection of victims and their families.
After initially joining the office as a staff attorney in 2001, Shropshire left to open her own private practice, the Law Office of Kim S. Shropshire, in 2003. Then, in 2005, she returned to Colorado Legal Services as a grant attorney, holding that position until 2006.
She received a B.A. from the University of Georgia in 1992. Shropshire went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 2001.
At the time of her appointment, she resided in Durango, Colorado.
