The Hon. Lee A. Christofferson (Ret.) served as a judge for the North Dakota Northeast Judicial District. Christofferson was appointed to the bench by former Governor George Sinner in 1986, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Douglas B. Heen. He retired at the conclusion of his term on January 1, 2017.
The Northeast Judicial District includes Benson County, Bottineau County, Cavalier County, McHenry County, Pembina County, Pierce County, Ramsey County, Renville County, Rolette County, Towner County, and Walsh County.
Prior to his appointment, Christofferson was the State’s Attorney for Rolette County, a position to which he was named in 1984. Before that, he spent time as an attorney in private practice in Rolla.
Christofferson earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of North Dakota in 1971. He spent the next ten years as a county protection worker and a probation officer before completing a J.D. at Syracuse University College of Law.
Born in Rugby, North Dakota, Christofferson was raised in Bisbee, where he attended Bisbee High School. He is a veteran of the United States Army. Christofferson and his wife, Sandi, have two children.
