Hon. Linda Rekas Sloan is an associate justice of the Rhode Island Superior Court. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Gina Raimondo in 2020, becoming the first Asian-American on the court.
During her judicial tenure, her assignments have included presiding over the Cost, Fines & Restitution Calendar and the Diverse Calendar in Providence County.
At the time of her appointment, Rekas Sloan operated her own private practice, Linda Rekas Sloan, LLC, since 2014. At her firm, she served as a court-appointed receiver, special master, or commissioner for insolvent companies or for real estate disputes.
In addition to managing her practice, Rekas Sloan was the assistant vice president of Business Development at Fidelity National Title Group in Providence (2014 to 2021).
She received a B.S. in business administration from Providence College in 1991. Rekas Sloan went on to complete a J.D. at Boston University School of Law in 1994.
She was admitted to practice in Rhode Island (1994), the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island (1995), the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut (1999), Massachusetts (2001), and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts (2002).
After graduating from law school, she began her legal career as an associate at Olenn & Penza (1993 to 1998). Rekas Sloan also practiced at Salter McGowan Sylvia & Leonard, Inc. (1998 to 2006 and 2009 to 2014) and Orson & Brusini, Ltd. (2006 to 2009).
During her tenure in private practice, she handled matters involving insurance defense litigation, bankruptcy litigation and receivership issues, insolvency, corporate and business law, commercial transactions, commercial litigation, real estate, and creditors' rights.
Rekas Sloan also spent time as title counsel for the Mortgage Guarantee and Title Company (2007 to 2008).
She has taught as an adjunct professor at Roger Williams University School of Law and Providence College.
Rekas Sloan is a past president of the Rhode Island Bar Association (2017 to 2018).
