The Hon. Lorraine M. Augostini is a judge for the Morris/Sussex County Superior Court (Vicinage 10) in New Jersey. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Chris Christie on December 8, 2017.
Augostini has held assignments in the Civil Division (2017 to 2019) and the Family Division (2019 to present) in Sussex County.
Prior to her appointment, Augostini worked for the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender. She started as a deputy public defender in the Sussex Trial Region in 1991, handling criminal, juvenile, and child welfare cases before exclusively representing children in child welfare cases.
Then, in 2000, she was named managing attorney for the State of New Jersey Office of Law Guardian’s Northwest Region, a position she held until becoming its statewide Director of Litigation in 2004. Augostini spent the next eight years in that capacity before her appointment as Assistant Public Defender (2012) and First Assistant Public Defender (2016). She spent the remainder of her legal career supervising the Office of Law Guardian and the Office of Juvenile Defense Services.
Augostini earned a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College. She then completed a J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center in 1989.
After graduating from law school, Augostini began her legal career as a staff attorney for the New York Legal Aid Society. She was assigned to the Criminal Defense Division, where she presented individuals in Manhattan.
