The Hon. Lou A. D’Apolito (Ret.) served as a judge for the General Division of the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. D’Apolito was elected to the bench on November 4, 2008 and assumed office on December 1, 2008. He retired on December 31, 2018.
Over the course of his judicial career, D’Apolito presided over a case that changed his view of capital punishment. In 2012, an individual stood trial for murder. The conviction looked strong until new, last-second evidence pinned the murder on an individual who was then deceased.
Prior to his election, D’Apolito was the owner of Lou A. D'Apolito Law Office, a law firm located in Boardman.
D’Apolito earned a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Akron School of Law.
He is registered as a Democrat.
