The Hon. Lynn Cobb is a judge for Division I of the Shelby County General Sessions Court in Tennessee. He was appointed to the bench in 1997.
Prior to his appointment, Cobb was a part-time county attorney in Shelby County since 1994 and was in private practice for over fifteen years. Cobb, whose practice focused on insurance litigation, managed his own private practice and was an attorney at Neely, Green, Fargarson & Brooke.
Early in his career, he worked as an auditor for the Tennessee Department of Revenue before practicing for one year at Charles Perkins. Then, Cobb entered government practice as an assistant city attorney, where he remained until returning to private practice at Neely, Green, Fargarson & Brooke.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wofford College in 1972. Cobb then completed a J.D. at the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, in 1976.
His memberships include the Memphis Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Cobb also served on the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee.
He was born and raised in Brownsville, Tennessee. His father, a builder by trade, served as a judge for the Henderson County Court. A member of the Screen Actors Guild, Cobb was cast as an attorney for both film and television, including a non-speaking part in John Grisham's, “The Firm.”
He is registered as a Republican.
