The Hon. M. Richard Geiger (Ret.) served as a judge for the North Dakota Northeast Judicial District. Geiger was elected to the bench in 1994 and re-elected in 2000, 2006, and 2012. He retired on October 1, 2017.
The Northeast Judicial District includes Benson County, Bottineau County, Cavalier County, McHenry County, Pembina County, Pierce County, Ramsey County, Renville County, Rolette County, Towner County, and Walsh County.
Geiger earned a bachelor’s degree from North Dakota State University in 1973. He then completed a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1979. As a law student, Geiger was a member of the North Dakota Law Review.
After graduating from law school, Geiger entered into private practice in Grafton. He worked in that capacity until 1987, at which time he became a judge for the Walsh County Court, the Pembina County Court, and the Cavalier County Court.
His memberships have included the American Bar Association and the Northeast Judicial District Bar Association.
Geiger was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He and his wife, Susie, have one child.
