The Hon. Marcus Naylor is a judge for the King County District Court in Washington. He was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018.
Prior to his election, Naylor spent eight years as a judge pro tem for the King County District Court. He also worked as the supervising attorney for the Northwest Defender Association (1992 to 2018), holding assignments in the Seattle Municipal Court, the Felony Unit, and the Juvenile Court. During this time, he volunteered as an attorney for the Neighborhood Legal Clinic.
Naylor earned a bachelor’s degree from Trinity Lutheran College in 1986. He then completed a J.D. at Seattle University School of Law in 1992.
His memberships have included the Washington State Bar Association and the Asian Bar Association. He also sat on the Board of Trustees of the King County Bar Association as well as the Diversity Committee, the Juvenile Justice Roundtable, the Seattle Criminal Justice Committee, and the Organized Retail Theft Task Force.
He was named Attorney of the Year by the Northwest Defenders Division.
Naylor was born in Seoul, South Korea. He spent the first nine years of his life in an orphanage before he was adopted by a family from Minnesota. His father worked for the local school district, overseeing special education programming for a large part of the state. His mother was a retired teacher. As a child, he enjoyed hockey, scouting, fishing, and hunting.
