Hon. Marques A. Ivey is a judge for the Adams County Court in Colorado. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Jared Polis on April 15, 2022, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Brian N. Bowen (Ret.).
Prior to his appointment, Ivey presided as a district and county court magistrate for the 17th Judicial District since 2021.
Before joining the bench, he managed his own private criminal defense practice, the Law Office of Marques A. Ivey, PLLC, since 2006. During that same time, he served as a relief municipal judge for the Aurora Municipal Court (2020 to 2021), a pro-tem municipal judge for the Westminster Municipal Court (2020 to 2021), a variable municipal judge for the Lakewood Municipal Court (2019 to 2021), and a parking magistrate for the City of Aurora (2016 to 2021).
Ivey also practiced briefly as an associate at Harris, Karstaedt, Jamison & Powers, P.C. (2005 to 2006) and was a deputy state public defender with the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender in Denver (2002 to 2004).
In addition to his legal career, he was a co-founder and owner of the multi-media group, Dope Black Thoughts Network, and a managing member of the investment group, IPW, LLC.
Ivey received a B.A. in criminal justice from Indiana University Bloomington in 1999. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2002.
Ivey served as president of the Aurora Public Schools Board of Education, vice president of advocacy for the National PTA, and a founding board member of Attorneys and Educators for Social and Racial Justice.
