Hon. Maureen T. Beirne is the president judge for the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Ed Rendell in October 2008. Beirne was elected to the seat in 2009 and retained in 2019.
She received a B.S. in chemistry from Spring Hill College in 1984. Beirne went on to complete a J.D. at Syracuse University School of Law in 1988.
After graduating from law school, she began her legal career in private practice, joining her late father, Robert J. Beirne, in his general law practice. Beirne remained in private practice until her appointment to the bench. During that time, she gained experience in criminal, family, wills and estates, real estate, workers’ compensation, personal injury, business and corporate, municipal and zoning law.
In addition, she spent time as a Bradford County Child Advocate.
Her memberships have included the Pennsylvania Criminal Defense Attorneys Association, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, the Victims of Crime and Victims of Juvenile Offenders Local Policy Board, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Bradford County Bar Association.
Her civic involvement included St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church (member and lecturer), the Sayre Public Library (Board of Trustees), and the Tioga Point Museum.
Beirne was also a member of the Valley Economic Development Association Board, the Penn York Opportunities Board, and the Greater Valley EMS Board.
She and her husband, Max Gannon, reside in Athens.
