The Hon. Michael A. Borer is a judge for the Probate and Juvenile Division of the Putnam County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Ted Strickland on January 7, 2011, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Daniel Gerschutz.
Borer was instrumental in creating the Make the Grade Program, an effort to assist juvenile probationers who are struggling academically. He also started a Mock Interview Program, where juveniles can create resumes and hone their interviewing skills.
Prior to his appointment, Borer was an attorney in private practice, specializing in real estate, probate, estates, guardianships, and adoption matters in Ottawa. He served as legal counsel for Putnam County YMCA, the Port Authority of Northwest Ohio, the Ottawa-Glandorf Athletic Boosters, and the Putnam County CIC.
He also spent time as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office, a staff attorney for the Putnam County Child Support Enforcement Agency, and a solicitor for Leipsic, Pandora, Cloverdale, Dupont, and Miller City.
Borer earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Toledo College of Law.
Raised in Putnam County, Borer attended Ottawa-Glandorf High School. He and his wife, Louann, have three children.
He is registered as a Democrat.
