The Hon. Michael P. Joyce is a judge for the 10th Judicial District Court of Kansas in Johnson County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Sam Brownback on October 24, 2012.
During his judicial tenure, Joyce has presided over probate and adult criminal matters.
Prior to his appointment, he was in private practice since 1988. During that time, Joyce was associated with Van Osdol & Magruder, PC; Van Osdol, Magruder, Erickson & Redmond, PC; The Joyce Law Firm, LLC (1997 to 2000); Koenigsdorf & Wyrsch, PC; and Wyrsch, Hobbs, Mirakian & Lee, PC. He was also an instructor at the University of Missouri and the Kansas City Law School.
Joyce received a B.A. from Creighton University in 1982. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Houston Law Center (1988) and an M.J.S. from the University of Nevada (2022).
His memberships include the Johnson County Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (Board of Directors).
Joyce received the President’s Award from the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He is credited with assisting in the editing of the Kansas Bar Association’s handbook on Kansas Probate and Trust Administration After Death.
He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and resides in Leawood, Kansas.
