The Hon. Michele McKay-McCoy (Ret.) served as a judge for the Santa Clara County Superior Court in California. McKay-McCoy was elected to the bench on November 7, 2006. She retired in 2021.
McKay-McCoy earned a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in library science from the University of California, Berkeley (1972). Then, in 1977, she received a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Prior to her appointment to the bench, McKay-McCoy served as a deputy district attorney for the Offices of the District Attorney of Santa Clara County, Solano County, and Contra Costa County. She has also taught criminal law and trial advocacy as an adjunct professor for the J. F. Kennedy University Law School.
McKay-McCoy was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. She served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for over thirty years. She has also volunteered for Sew Much Comfort, a volunteer group that adapts clothing for the needs of returning combat veterans.
