Biography

Hon. Milton L. Childs, Sr. is a judge for the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in the First Judicial District of Wisconsin. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Tony Evers in 2019, filling the vacancy created by the appointment of the Hon. Joseph Donald to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals.

Childs has held an assignment in the Felony Division.

Prior to his appointment, Childs was a managing attorney in the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office. During his tenure there, he began in the Sheboygan office and then moved to the Racine office after a brief stint in private practice. Childs then became a supervisor in Milwaukee, where he managed a unit that focused on mental health commitments.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Xavier University. Childs then spent twelve years working as a math teacher before completing a J.D. at Marquette University Law School in 2003. He was admitted to practice in Wisconsin in 2004.

Childs was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served for eight years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, holding the rank of Sergeant.
