The Hon. Monica H. Leslie is a judge for the 30th Judicial District Court of North Carolina. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mike Easley on April 20, 2004, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John J. Snow, Jr.
The 30th Judicial District encompasses Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain, Clay, Cherokee, and Graham Counties.
Prior to her appointment, Leslie was an assistant district attorney with the 30th Prosecutorial District Attorney’s Office, a position to which she was named in 1997. She specialized in the prosecution of cases involving violence against women and children.
Leslie earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992. She then completed a J.D. at the Georgetown University Law Center in 1995.
After graduating from law school, Leslie began her legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office.
