Judge Nicole Colbert-Botchway - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Nicole Colbert-Botchway is an associate circuit judge for the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court (Division 16) of Missouri. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jay Nixon on July 2, 2015, filling the vacancy created by the appointment of the Hon. Christopher McGraugh to a circuit judge.

The 22nd Judicial Circuit includes the City of St. Louis.

During her judicial tenure, Colbert-Botchway has held an assignment in Family Court.

Prior to her appointment, she was an administrative law judge for the Administrative Hearing Commission for the State of Missouri (2014 to 2015). Before that, Colbert-Botchway had worked in private practice and was a former assistant circuit attorney for the St. Louis City Circuit Attorney’s Office (1998 to 2004) and an assistant attorney general with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office (2004 to 2014), where she served for more than ten years as a unit leader.

She received a B.A. in political science and African American studies from Saint Louis University in 1993. Colbert-Botchway went on to complete a J.D. at Saint Louis University School of Law (1996) and an M.B.A. from the University of Missouri-St. Louis (2002). She was admitted to practice in Missouri (1997) and Illinois (1998).

Her memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Missouri Bar Board of Governors, the National Bar Association, the Mound City Bar Association, the Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater St. Louis, the Missouri Association of Probate and Associate Circuit Judges, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and the Lawyers Association of St. Louis.

A lifelong resident of St. Louis City, Colbert-Botchway attended Rosati-Kain High School. She is married and has one son. Colbert-Botchway is a member of Saint Alphonsus Liguori “Rock” Catholic Church.
