The Hon. Paul R. Dunkelman is a judge for the 5th Judicial District Court of Colorado. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Hickenlooper in 2013.
The 5th Judicial District encompasses Clear Creek County, Eagle County, Lake County, and Summit County. Over the course of his judicial career, he has presided over a mixed docket, handling domestic, criminal, civil, juvenile and mental health cases.
Prior to his appointment, Dunkelman was a partner at Carlson, Carlson & Dunkelman in Frisco. During his tenure there, he practiced family law, criminal law, and civil litigation, supplementing his practice with service as an adjunct professor at Colorado Mountain College.
Dunkelman earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Colgate University in 1988. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 1993.
He is a recipient of the Judicial Excellence Award from the Colorado Judicial Institute (2021).
