The Hon. Peter A. Bogaard is a judge for the Morris/Sussex County Superior Court (Vicinage 10) in New Jersey. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Chris Christie on February 15, 2013.
Bogaard has held assignments in the Family Division in Essex County (2013 to 2018) and Morris County (2013 to 2018, 2021 to present). He also presided in the Civil Division in Morris County (2018 to 2021).
Prior to his appointment, Bogaard was an attorney in private practice, working as a partner with his wife at Bogaard and Associates in Mendham (2008 to 2013). He specialized in personal injury litigation, business formation and consulting, real estate, and land use matters.
Bogaard earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and government from the University of Notre Dame in 1985. He then completed a J.D. at Notre Dame Law School in 1988. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey (1989) and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (1990).
After graduating from law school, Bogaard began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Lawrence Weiss of the New Jersey Superior Court.
His memberships have included the Union County Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
He was a resident of Chester, New Jersey, at the time of his appointment, serving on the Chester Borough Planning Board and the Chester Borough Council.
Bogaard is registered as a Republican. He has been active in the Republican Club of the Mendhams and the Chesters.
