The Hon. Peter Knight is a senior resident judge for the Henderson County Superior Court in the 29B Judicial District of the 5th Division in North Carolina. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Roy Cooper in 2018, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Mark Powell.
The 29B Judicial District includes Henderson, Polk, and Transylvania Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Knight presided as a judge for the 29B Judicial District Court since being elected to the seat in 2008. Before joining the bench, he worked in private practice in Henderson County since 1980 and was a state magistrate since 1994.
Knight received a B.S. in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1977. He then completed a J.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in 1980.
Knight has volunteered his time to the YMCA of Henderson County and Grace Lutheran Church.
He is registered as a Republican.
