The Hon. Regina D. Thomas is a judge for the Third Circuit Court in Michigan. She was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018.
Prior to her election, Thomas was the Director of Counsel and Advocacy Law Line at Lakeshore Legal Aid, a position to which she was named in 2017. Before that, she spent time as deputy chief counsel for the Legal Aid and Defender Association (2013 to 2017) as well as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office (2010 to 2013).
Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Tennessee State University in 1991. She then completed a J.D. at Vanderbilt University Law School in 1994.
After graduating from law school, Thomas began her legal career as an assistant attorney general with the Michigan Department of Attorney General. She served in that capacity until 2004, at which time she became Chief Counsel of the Juvenile Law Group of the Legal Aid and Defender Association.
