The Hon. Robert E. Macaulay (Ret.) served as a judge for the 6th Judicial District Court of Minnesota. Macaulay was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arne Carlson on February 23, 1995. He retired on August 31, 2021.
The 6th Judicial District includes Carlton County, Cook County, Lake County, and St. Louis County.
Prior to his appointment, Macaulay was an assistant county attorney for the Carlton County Attorney’s Office, a position to which he was named in 1984.
Macaulay earned a bachelor’s degree from Roanoke College in 1978. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Minnesota Law School in 1981.
Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, Macaulay was raised in Moose Lake. When not presiding over legal proceedings, he enjoys riding his bicycle.
