Hon. Robert J. Steinberg (Ret.) was an associate judge for the Baltimore County District Court (District 8) in Maryland. He joined the bench in 1998. Steinberg retired on July 7, 2014.
During his judicial tenure, Steinberg sat as a member of the Maryland Judicial Conference Criminal Law and Procedure Committee, Civil Law and Procedure Committee, and Judicial Compensation Committee. He was also on the Public Safety Article Review Committee and the Joint Committee on Parole Issues (chair).
Prior to joining the bench, he spent time as an assistant state’s attorney in Baltimore City (1976 to 1979).
Steinberg received an A.B. from Washington University in 1972. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law in 1975.
His memberships included the Maryland State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association, and the Baltimore County Bar Association.
Steinberg was also involved with the Trial Table Law Club and the Safety First Club of Maryland.
He was a co-author of the MICPEL publications on the “Practice of Criminal Law in the District Court of Maryland” and the “Prosecutions and Defense of DWI Cases.”
Steinberg received the Anselm Sodaro Judicial Civility Award from the Maryland State Bar Association (2009) and the Earl J. Plumhoff Professionalism Award from the Baltimore County Bar Association (2014).
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland.
