The Hon. Robert K. Inselmann is a judge for the 217th District Court of Texas in Angelina County. He was elected to the seat in 2014.
During his judicial tenure, Inselmann oversaw the Drug Court. In 2018, he conducted an experiment to see what it was like to be on probation after drug court participants reported that it was difficult to manage the time-consuming process. Inselmann spent one month under partial adult supervision and imposed stipulations upon himself, including limiting his spending to twelve dollars a day for gas and food, paying the sixty-dollar fee required by the probation office, and checking in with a supervising officer. After completing the experiment, he determined to pay one probationer the sixty-dollar fee each month.
Inselmann earned a B.A. in political science from Texas A&M University in 1984. He then went on to complete his J.D. at South Texas College of Law Houston in 1988.
After graduating from law school, Inselmann worked as an attorney in private practice with the Inselmann Law firm (1993 to 2006). Before taking the bench, he served as a judge for the Angelina County Court at Law No.1 since 2007.
Inselmann is a registered Republican.
