The Hon. Roberta C. Archer is a judge for the 36th District Court of Michigan. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jennifer Granholm on March 16, 2006, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Trudy DunCombe Archer.
Prior to her appointment, Archer was an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, a position to which she was named in 2003. During her tenure there, she held assignments in the Trial Division.
Archer earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1993. She then completed a J.D. at the Detroit College of Law in 1998.
After graduating from law school, Archer began her legal career as an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. She served in that capacity until 2003, at which time she joined Clark Hill PLC.
Her memberships have included the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the Wolverine Bar Association, the Association of Black Judges of Michigan, the Michigan District Court Judges Association, the American Judges Association, and the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Archer attended Mercy High School. She swam competitively for over a decade.
