Hon. Robin A. Schmidt is a judge for the Northwest Judicial District of North Dakota. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jack Dalrymple in 2013.
The Northwest Judicial District includes Divide, McKenzie, and Williams Counties.
During her judicial tenure, Schmidt has served as presiding judge for the Northwest Judicial District since 2017.
Prior to her appointment to the bench, she had managed her own private practice, the Schmidt Law Firm (2010 to 2013). Before opening her firm, Schmidt spent five years as an attorney at the Vogel Law Firm (2005 to 2010). After entering into private practice in 2005, she handled family, criminal, and administrative law matters.
She received a B.S. in social work from the University of North Dakota in 1999. Schmidt went on to complete a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2004. She was admitted to practice in North Dakota (2004), Minnesota (2005), and the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota (2005).
After graduating from law school, she began her legal career as a judicial law clerk for the North Dakota Supreme Court (2004 to 2005).
Schmidt attended Sawyer High School.
