The Hon. Roger J. DeHoog is a judge for the Oregon Supreme Court. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Kate Brown on January 19, 2022, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Lynn R. Nakamoto.
Prior to his appointment, DeHoog was a judge for the Oregon Court of Appeals, a position to which he was named on December 7, 2015. Before that, he spent time on the 11th Judicial District Circuit Court of Oregon.
DeHoog earned a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1987. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Oregon School of Law in 1992.
After graduating from law school, DeHoog began his legal career as a public defender in Deschutes County. He served in that capacity until 2000, at which time he entered into private practice as a partner at Hummel, Doyle, & DeHoog. Then, in 2007, he joined the Special Litigation Unit of the Oregon Department of Justice.
His memberships have included the Judicial Conduct Committee, the Oregon Council on Court Procedures, and the Oregon State Bar Constitutional Law Section. He has also been involved with NeighborImpact.
Born in Portland, Oregon, DeHoog and his wife, Elicia, reside in Bend, Oregon. His wife works as a private branding and management consultant. DeHoog is of Dutch-Indonesian descent, and he is the first member of his family born in the United States.
