Hon. Sarah Taft-Carter is an associate justice of the Rhode Island Superior Court. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Donald Carcieri in 2010, filling the vacancy created by the appointment of the Hon. Alice Bridget Gibney to Presiding Justice of the Superior Court.
During her judicial tenure, her assignments have included presiding over the Civil Calendar in Washington County.
Prior to joining the bench, Taft-Carter was a partner in the Cranston law firm of Taft & McSally, LLP.
She received a B.A. from the University of Rhode Island in 1978. Taft-Carter went on to complete a J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 1981.
She was admitted to practice in Rhode Island (1982), the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island, and the United States Supreme Court.
Her late father, James L. Taft, Jr., was the former mayor of Cranston.
