The Hon. Scarlett W. Ellis is a judge for the Scott County General Sessions Court in Tennessee. She was elected to the bench on August 4, 2022, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jamie Cotton, Jr.
Prior to her election, Ellis was a magistrate for the Scott County General Sessions Court, a position she held for seven years. Before that, she spent time as an assistant district attorney general as well as an attorney in private practice. Over the course of her legal career, Ellis has represented the Oneida Special School District, the First National Bank, and the Town of Winfield.
Ellis earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1983. She spent the next several years working as a child care services supervisor and child abuse investigator for the Tennessee Department of Human Services and the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. Then, in 1997, she completed a J.D. at Nashville School of Law.
The fifth of six children, Ellis has two children of her own. She attends First Baptist Church of Oneida.
